Great Chamber I.
The Great Chamber on the first floor is composed of a bedchamber and a living room, and was common in the Middle Ages. In the bedchamber area there is a bed. It is raised for the cold, which stayed close to the ground in the winter months. In addition to the bedside tables, there are bathing cabinets in the bed chamber area – in the past there was a container of water in the upper part of the cabinents and a washbasin laid on the open area. On the two chests by the windows, you can see images of Bojnice castle before and during the last rebuilding. On the large chest between the arches, which was used for storing clothes, a portable Neo-Gothic altar is on display.

In the wall panelling below the windows there are proverbs written in Hungarian: “Wealth and the world are fleeting, but good deeds remain forever.” “Frequent changes in friendship cause harm.” “The fool has his heart on his lips, the wise has his tongue in his heart.” “Get as much gold as you need, and as much wisdom as you can.”

St. Catherine, Johann Scheffer von Leonhardshoff, oil on canvas, 19th century
