The Tomb

The Tomb (or crypt) directly under the chapel was created by count John Pálffy at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. He planned to create it for himself and his relatives. In the centre of the tomb, in a sarcophagus, are the remains of count John Pálffy, who died in Vienna on 2 June 1908. His parents, Francis Alois Pálffy (1780 - 1852) and Natalia née Erdődy (1803 - 1845), are buried by the wall. In the anteroom of the tomb is buried the former Bishop of Nitra and Chancellor of Hungary Thomas Pálffy (1623 - 1679). Although he was not one of the owners of the Bojnice manor, he was a family ancestor whom count Pálffy held in high esteem and therefore wished his remains to be placed in Bojnice.
