Third Courtyard
The Third Courtyard was created as part of the Baroque conversion of the castle in the middle of the 17th century under the first Pálffy owner of Bojnice – Paul Pálffy. It was a private space for the landlord and his family. It connected his living quarters – the Count’s Apartment (the count’s suite) – with the Middle Castle. From the bottom of the Equestrian Staircase, the Third Courtyard was accessed through an early Baroque portal, which is now at the entrance to the vestibule of the Hunyadi Hall. Count Pálffy had it moved there during the Romantic rebuilding. He also had a Latin chronogram made for it, which indicates the year 1899.

The Neo-Gothic portal with the magnificent bronze door at the entrance from the courtyard to the Middle Castle, was made by the Colli company according to a design by count Pálffy. It replaced the older Baroque portal, which count Pálffy had moved to the Second Courtyard next to the chapel (to the right of the entrance to the Apartments).
