Green Room

We are located in the Reception Room or, depending on the colour of the wall painting, also in the Green Room. In fact, the painting of the room replicates the green painting of the so-called "Grünstuben", which were the “green rooms” of the original Gothic interiors from the second half of the 15th century. The furniture dates from the second half of the 19th century, with the exception of three Renaissance armchairs from the 16th century. They are among the oldest pieces of seating furniture in our museum collections and come from the original collections of count Pálffy. On the console next to the window there is a marble statue of a writing boy, which was made after an original by the Italian sculptor Antonio Canova.

Throughout the second floor of the Middle Castle, the wall, window, door and ceiling panelling and shutters are made of oak. While the exterior of the Romantically rebuilt Middle Castle is inspired by the Gothic castles of France, the interior is inspired by the Gothic castles of Tyrol.
